About the author
This was the day on which the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing an official flag for the United States of America. This flag contained 13 stripes and 13 stars, as laid out in the resolution. With the admittance of new states, the flag underwent a number of changes before becoming the flag we recognize today. Today's flag was designed by a high school student and introduced following the admittance of Alaska and Hawaii to the Union.
